About me
I was born in Liverpool, England in 1945. From very early on I was constantly drawing and painting. However, I studied Engineering at University and spent most of my working years in Industry and Finance. This took me all over the world including a period living in America.
In the early 2000’s I took the opportunity to go back to school and went to The City & Guilds of London Art School where, four years later, I emerged with a BA in Fine Art. Since then I have had a studio and worked continuously. My current studio is at Wimbledon Art Studios in South West London.
As a figurative painter, I paint what I see. But not all that I see. For me painting is about extracting a visual story from the subject. The way that light strikes a surface, its texture, a chance patch of colour or pattern that can transform perhaps quite mundane subjects and give them visual interest. This differentiates paintings from photographs. With paintings you see how it’s done. The brushwork and technique tell of the intention of the artist. That is, I think, what it is all about.
